Professional Indemnity

Professional indemnity (or PI) insurance protects business people who sell their knowledge or skills. It is a legal requirement for lawyers, accountants or financial advisers but often taken out by other professionals such as architects, management consultants, IT consultancies or advertising and marketing agencies.

PI protects your business against compensation sought by a client if you have made mistakes or are found to have been negligent in services which you provide for them.  It will also cover any legal costs.

As there can often be a long delay between you advising a client and a subsequent claim, you need to set up a period of extended ‘run-off’ cover, if, for example, you want to cancel a policy or change insurers.
